2027 Coastal Craft 48 Express Fish
The 2027 Coastal Craft 48 Express Fish is an entirely new design and the first hull built, the largest and most heavily constructed Express Fish to come out of Coastal Craft’s Gibsons facility. Built to ABYC standards in fully welded marine aluminum with 5/16″ bottom plate, a full step heavier than the 45 Express Fish and 47T, the 48 pairs commercial-grade structure with a complete Awlgrip finish and full Soundown insulation for a notably quiet ride. Twin Volvo Penta D6-480 diesels on IPS 650 pods deliver 960 horsepower and an efficient 28 knot cruise, with a usable range from seven knots up. A 600 gallon main tank and a dedicated auxiliary for the generator and heater give the 48 serious long-range capability for extended Pacific Northwest and Southeast Alaska cruising. IPS joystick control and Humphree interceptors with Active Ride make a fifty foot boat remarkably easy to dock and keep it composed when Georgia Strait turns up.
The 144 square foot cockpit is purpose-built for serious fishing. Finished in Flexi-Teak G2 decking and cover boards, it includes a mezzanine deck with rod storage below, two insulated in-deck fish boxes, a livewell, seven transom rod holders, tackle drawers and cupboards throughout, and Burnewiin mounts in the cockpit and along the transom staple rails supporting a large fish cleaning tray. A full width swim platform 42 inches deep carries additional built-in fish boxes and is accessed through a transom door. A pop-up port side helm station brings a Volvo Glass Cockpit display, joystick and engine controls out to the working deck for backing down. Also fitted with an Isotherm refrigerator drawer, flush mount Kenyon grill, cockpit shower, six deck power points for electric reels and downriggers, a 48 inch hardtop overhang with recessed SureShade automatic awning, a Steelhead WD800 davit crane with AB 9 UL tender and Mercury 9.9, and underwater transom lights.
The interior is finished in Brookside black walnut with teak plank flooring and black walnut window frames. A one piece curved windshield, powered cocktail window, opening fritted side glass, Webasto sunroof with shade and screen, fully opening rear window and double bi-fold glass doors open the salon completely to the cockpit, making the two spaces one on a summer evening. Seating includes a U-shaped settee for six, a double-wide forward passenger seat and a helm seat on an electric slider, with fully dimmable three-zone lighting and a Fusion audio system running interior and cockpit speakers. The starboard galley is equipped with a Sub-Zero two drawer refrigerator with ice maker, a separate freezer below deck, a two burner Kenyon cooktop, a Bosch convection microwave and Corian countertops.
Accommodations are two staterooms with a head and separate shower. The master forward features an island queen berth with step platforms both sides, port and starboard hanging lockers, drawers under the berth, two overhead hatches with Oceanair screens and shades, Pompanette stainless opening portlights and dimmable art and reading lights. The aft stateroom is finished in engineered black walnut with twin bunks converting to a queen and a hanging locker with storage. The shower is a watertight stall with seat and Avonite wet wall panels.
Navigation is a full Garmin package built around twin Volvo Penta Glass Cockpit displays, with Fantom 24x closed array radar, dual frequency sounder, VHF with Morad antenna and Volvo autopilot integrated with joystick steering. Sight lines from the lower helm are among the best in the class. The 48 carries a 600Ah lithium house bank, a Victron 5kW inverter/charger and a second alternator on each engine wired direct to the house through Wakespeed regulation, allowing extended time at anchor with full refrigeration and heat without touching the generator. A Phasor 8kW generator, Espar diesel furnace serving both cabins, Webasto reverse cycle air conditioning, Hurricane diesel-fired on-demand hot water and engine-heat windshield defrost complete a systems package specified for year-round Pacific Northwest cruising.
As the first 48 Express Fish built, this is a rare opportunity to acquire a new Coastal Craft without the wait of a custom build. The boat is complete, lying on the BC coast, and available for viewing on Granville Island.
